Introductory meeting for schools to participate in the PAUCI environmental project
On 21 of June, an introductory meeting was organized in the premises of the Arts Support Fund for representatives of schools participating in the project “Establishing School Centers of Environmental Education in Ukraine”
|
Teachers received detailed information about the aim, objectives and priorities of the project, discussed relevance of such activities, discovered components of a pilot program of environmental education center’s activities that schools have to design and implement. The list of required material support to implement the program – equipment and supplies – was agreed during the meeting.
The second part of the meeting was devoted to examination of best environmental projects in Ukrainian schools: Iryna Yarema made presentation of the OSCE project “Green pack” and presented such packs to the school representatives; and Andii Khrudba told about projects of Youth Environmental Center. Though, participants were most impressed with the presentation of two schools that participated in the last year PAUCI project. With their presentations, two schools from Zhytomyr and Pervomaisk set a high benchmark to their colleagues – they told about public actions and competitions they had organized, sponsor support they had attracted, local authorities and mass media they had involved in their activities. The stories were illustrated with video and photo production as well as publications in newspapers.
An important outcome of the meeting was that new schools clearly understood their task and believed in their capacity to involve the community to the implementation of the project. Wide public involvement will ensure sustainability of school centers of environmental education.
At the end of the meeting school representatives received the first part of project support – T-shirts and manuals and were invited for a tasty lunch.
The project is implemented with financial support of Democracy Grants program of the US Embassy to Ukraine.
